PJK III Tourney

This post is almost a week late in coming but I've been pretty busy.

Last Sunday's PJK tournament was a small one, with only 8 entrants.

Two hands were memorable for me: The first one had me putting Lucas67 all-in and knocking him out with nines over fours, to his sevens over fours, which put me in a considerable chip lead. The second one was just stupid. We were three-handed, Felicia, myself and RicksCafe. Rick had a slight lead over me, and I acted stupidly when I felt he was trying to steal the pot. Of course, he wasn't, and I bubbled out.

Oh well, this Sunday is a new day. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, right? Well...if I got knocked out it's almost like being killed, but it'll make me stronger...whatever...it's too early for me to be profound...

PJK III...part two

so...I've had 14 hours to reflect on my play in last night's PJK tourney. I came out of the gate playing tight and aggressive; the play of the tourney, in general, was tight and aggressive -- any 2- or 3-bet could steal the blinds, it seemed, like 75% of the time.

I am really happy with my play, except for a few hands where I slipped into a weird passive realm. I managed to get wired queens, kings and aces in late position or on the button a handful of times, but when I tried to trap I think I over did it: I think I was afraid that a 2-bet wouldn't get any action, so my limp-in was easily sniffed out as a trap. This only happened once really, against EOS, where I got rockets UTG, and called his BB. He checked to me on a flop of A T 8 of spades, and I bet T400. True, he wasn't really in and was probably just seeing the flop for free, but I wished I could get some action for the aces.

The next hand, I'm in the BB, EOS in SB. I get JsTc, and EOS raises T600; I figure he's stealing, so I call. Flop: 3cJcTd. EOS bets T2500, and I call; I'm figuring that he's either 4-flushed or straight, but I'm not feeling a set of Jacks. Turn: 8d. He bets T900 and it puts me all-in; I'm all ready pot-committed. EOS shows KsJh. Only a Q or K stand in my way of the T8400 pot and me doubling up. River: Ah.

A few hands later, I knocked EOS out with a pair of Kings over his pair of deuces.

Once we were down to the final three, UpForPoker, myself, and PaulBurbon, it didn't last long. UFP was all-in pre-flop on the first hand. I had QdQs, Paul had Ah4d, and UFP had TdTs. The board came 8d2d5d7s9d, and UFP was out to my Queen-high flush.

The next hand, I helped PaulBurbon out heads-up by letting him take 2/3 of my money. A few hands later, I was out in 2nd place because I couldn't scare Paul away from the Turn which made his second pair.

All in all, I was very happy with the night -- I did figure out that I'm not able to switch gears from NLHE to LHE, though...good thing I only lost $10 to find that one out.

PKJ III...

Tonight was the third weekly Poker Journal Keepers tourney, and I took 2nd place!

I've managed to make it to the halfway point of our tourneys in the past, but I'm usually short stacked and blind out. Tonight there were only 16 of us, and we were at the final table really fast. Play was really tight with a ton of stealing going on.

The player's area at Planet is down, so I'm short on hand histories and everyone's places, but the top 3 was:

1. PaulBurbon $152
2. minorthird $91
3. CJ $60

I'll write more tomorrow, after this has sunk in.

PJK II Tourney

so...on Sunday night, I played in the second Poker Journal Keepers tournament on Planet Poker. Thanks to Felicia for putting this together!

There were 24 of us playing, and I have to say, everyone's game has gotten better since the WBT II last month!

I made it to the final table, and busted out in 10th. I was happy with my play...there is only one hand that I felt was memorable, though:

Right after the the thrid table was dropped, I found myself at a table with Roy Cooke, Chris Halverson, Pauly, hdouble, Paul Burbon, gpoker, Dontpokeme and thefatguy! I got dealt pocket kings in the SB (75). gpoker raises to 300, in late position with no bets, thefatguy reraises to 600 on the button, and I call.

The flop brings 5h 9h 6d. I bet 300, gpoker raises to 600, tfg goes all in with 1400. I call and gpoker folds. I've got him on a pair, maybe queens.

The showdown: The Turn: Qs. Oh Shit! No Turning back now. The River: Ad. Hrmmm...if he had the pocket rockets he would have beaten me anyway.

He turns over jacks! He's out in 19th, and I double up.

I managed to go shortstacked shortly after that, and just played defense until I was just about blinded out.

WBT II Tourney

so...last night was the WBT II at TruePoker. Huge thanks to Iggy for organizing the affair. It was great getting to put a "face" on the other poker bloggers -- or at least getting to see them play.

I busted out in 12th place, out of 28. I am very happy with that -- I honestly went in just hoping not to be out first.

My fears almost came true 11 hands in, when Hdouble tried to put me all-in after a couple of raises. I folded, and it left me in last chip place, with T300! I was dealt wired tens, and by the time the showdown came, the board was Jd Ac 7c Td Qh. I was trying to play strong, but I figured my trip tens were going to crumble to the nut straight. So...Hdouble: did you have it?

I managed to grind my way back up -- into a chip lead at one point, I think -- thanks to a tons of wired pairs. My downfall came rigth after the break, when I had my AJ, with an A on the board, slapped around by ChrisHal's AK.

My starting table was:
Ugartes PG
deguillome
Jasonholdem
Boygza
Otis B Dart
tpfelt
John51

Here are a bunch of recaps, and placements below -- if anyone could help with who went out when, or if you were about to get a full hand history, please send it my way!

1. $196 Otis B Dart
2. $140 ChrisHal
3. $112 PaulyMcGrupp
