this is walker...

The newest member of the minorthird/snazzykat family: Walker

He was a neighborhood stray that we found Friday night. Erika has a few posts written about him already: 1, 2, 3, 4

Man, he smells!! It's his breath...the trip to the groomers today helped, but not when he opens his mouth. He's a talker, and as much as I encourage that, when we're in tight, enclosed spaces, like the car, or the bathroom, or the basement office (or the apartment, or outside of the house) the smell tend to build up.

he needs major dental work. The second vet we saw yesterday scraped off a piece of tartar that was the size of another whole tooth!

he's got hyperthyroidism. We'll have to give him meds to treat it.

We've seen quite a few strays in our neighborhood. We see them, we try to get their attention, and they run. Something made us go back Friday night to find this guy a second time. So, now it looks like we're rescuing a 12-15 year old with a few medical problems. Our two other cats are trying to deal with it -- they're curious mixed with jealous mixed with general cat-snottiness, when Walker is still thinking survival and hisses and growls.

I think it's safe to say that I'm a cat person now...

Poor Walker, he dosen't look like he feels very good. Did they give you some antibiotics for his teeth? Any plans to clean them in the near future? Just wondering I work at a vet and am courious about his progress.

The vet in running blood work right now, T4 and CBC...need to make sure that he can handle the dental procedures. We'll find out tomorrow night.

We'll get the antibiotics tomorrow night.

the term "reading" should be taken lightly (more):
The Illuminatus Trilogy: The Eye in the Pyramid, the Golden Apple & Leviathan by Robert Shea, Robert Anton Wilson
Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser
currently "reading" for classes
I should probably be paying more attention to these:
The Education of Little Tree by Forrest Carter, Rennard Strickland
The Indian Heritage of America by Alvin M. Josephy
Two Old Women: An Alaska Legend of Betrayal, Courage and Survival by V. Wallis
