flames! on the side of my face...

I am so frustrated with my company and the assholes that work here, my body is shaking!

cast of characters:
woody woodpecker -- product (mis)manager
opie taylor -- flash (wanna be)developer
big mess -- (normally a good)boss

I get an email from woody woodpecker today, asking if I can launch the changes I made to our site that will allow opie's flash masterpiece to be viewed by the world. Now...yes, she asked me to do this a week ago, and had to resend the email asking me again, but it's not like I sit around all day posting or anything like that -- I tend to get frustrated with emails from woody (many stories to tell there...) and block them from memory, like, oh, say when I blink.

anyway...I launch the changes, and check to make sure they look ok, and notice that the flash piece is an older one, and not the latest and greatest. I email woody back, to which she replies: "I'm confused, the new piece is on the testing machine." Uh, yeah, no shit...opie uploaded it there, and, whoa! it's there! I reply: "Please read back through this email thread. I told you to have opie upload the new flash pieces and let me know when they are there and I'll launch this." Ok class, what needs to happen before I'm told it's ready for launch? Gooood...riiiight, the new flash pieces need to be uploaded by opie.

I got snippy (yes, I know, it's a shock to me too), also saying the "opie should be responsible for his own files and that he has FTP access". Now, we named these flash movies with a generic name, this way, when opie wanted to make a change he could just overwrite the files.

At this point, enter big mess. "ok. stop it." I apologize. It turns out that the process is NOT to have opie upload the files but to have big mess (read: me) upload them. I apologize again, but this time it's for assuming that we had an EFFICIENT process in place. I've spent the last couple of year not having to deal with this process -- if I were religious, I would pray for the luxury of making it that long.

It turns out that we allow opie to upload files to the development and testing environments, but NOT the live environment...because WE DON'T TRUST OPIE!!! I mean, shit, there's a lot that he could do in a flash movie that might screw up the site, right? And an intelligent person would think that if opie did something stupid, or his movie was broken, he'd catch it, and fix it. Well, I did say INTELLIGENT. And that same intelligent person would think that if opie screwed up, and then didn't catch it, someone would, and opie would be told to be more careful...maybe he'd even get in trouble (oh no! not opie taylor! he's the only one that can do flash in this company and flash is going to be the thing that saves us all!!!!) Yeah...it's called a pain principle -- someone in my company should look it up.

so...now, I'm not mad that I have to upload the files, and I'm not mad that woody completely didn't read the emails I sent...I'm mad because my boss has admitted to me that he (read: we) doesn't trust opie or woody to do it right, so it's our job to wipe their asses!!

fanfuckingtastic!

and I get to sit down in a meeting tomorrow to discuss this all, and:
[from big mess] "stop and take a deep breath. We have more important things to do than to throw shots at each other. Please stop it. The sooner we discover that we are all on the same team the better. I want the three of us to get together at our earliest convenience to discuss this - and figure out how we are going to work together better. This is going to be uncomfortable..."

"uncomfortable"...what an understatement.

"how we are going to work together better"...ummm, fired the dead weight and bring back the people you laid off that actually knew what they were doing, and were trusted enough to do it?

the term "reading" should be taken lightly (more):
The Illuminatus Trilogy: The Eye in the Pyramid, the Golden Apple & Leviathan by Robert Shea, Robert Anton Wilson
Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser
currently "reading" for classes
I should probably be paying more attention to these:
The Education of Little Tree by Forrest Carter, Rennard Strickland
The Indian Heritage of America by Alvin M. Josephy
Two Old Women: An Alaska Legend of Betrayal, Courage and Survival by V. Wallis
